Coral and filigree — the combination that has appeared in Oaxacan silversmith workshops since the craft first arrived from Spain in the 1500s.

These earrings were handcrafted by a master silversmith in Oaxaca using the technique known as filigrana oaxaqueña: hair-thin sterling silver wires hand-twisted and soldered into intricate, lace-like structures. Framing vibrant coral, the filigree creates an architectural cage around the stone, letting the warmth of the coral speak through the precision of the silver. The craftsmanship is meticulous — every wire placed, every solder joint finished by hand.

About Oaxacan filigree

Filigrana oaxaqueña has been practiced in Oaxaca for nearly five centuries, passed from silversmith to silversmith within family workshops in the city's historic jewelry quarter. It is one of the most painstaking jewelry techniques in the world — not because of the tools required but because of the patience. Each piece is built one hair-thin wire at a time, by hand, with no factory equivalent.

Styling

The warm orange-red of the coral against silver filigree is a classically Oaxacan combination — rich without being heavy, eye-catching without requiring matching accessories. Wear with a white blouse, a dark jacket, or simply with your Frida Kahlo instincts.

Care

Polish silver gently with a soft cloth. Store in an airtight pouch or anti-tarnish bag. Avoid perfume, lotion, and water. Never expose coral to harsh chemicals, direct sunlight, or abrasive cleaners.
