Imagine building lace out of silver wire, one hair-thin coil at a time. Now imagine doing it in the shape of a gusano.
These Oaxacan sterling silver filigree earrings showcase the gusano — a sinuous, organic form that Oaxacan jewelers have been rendering in twisted wire for generations. The black agate stones ground each earring with a deep, cool contrast that makes the silver's intricacy even more visible. Each piece features wire-by-wire detailing that reflects centuries of authentic artisanal tradition — delicate in appearance, meticulous in construction, and surprisingly lightweight at 9 grams.
About Oaxacan filigree
Filigrana oaxaqueña arrived in Oaxaca via Spanish silversmiths in the 1500s and was absorbed so completely into local craft tradition that it became one of the city's defining art forms. Today, only a handful of family workshops in Oaxaca's historic jewelry quarter still practice it at this level — building each piece one wire coil at a time, soldering by hand, never from a mold.

Gusano translates literally as "worm" — in Oaxacan jewelry, it refers to a sinuous, elongated organic form that has been a recurring motif in the region's silverwork.
Is the black agate natural?
