Up in the mountains of Guerrero, a platero shaped sterling silver into a half-moon, then set a piece of black onyx inside it like a stone inside a frame.

Taxco de Alarcón has been Mexico's silver capital for more than 250 years. In a town where silversmithing is not a niche but an identity — where generations of plateros have worked the same streets, learned from the same teachers — pieces like these half-circle dangle earrings are not novelties. They are the town's natural voice. The black onyx stone is set against luminous sterling silver in a bold silhouette that is at once sculptural and completely wearable.

About Taxco silver

Taxco de Alarcón, in the state of Guerrero, has been Mexico's silver capital since the 18th century. The plateros working there today hand-finish every piece — there is no Taxco silver assembly line. The bold, sculptural aesthetic that defines Taxco jewelry is not a trend but a 250-year tradition of letting the metal speak.
