Purepecha Rebozo Shawl — Green Multi-Color Handwoven Cotton & Silk Fringe (Michoacán)

A Michoacán weaver who is known for her color — and a green palette that proves why.
This rebozo comes from a Purepecha artisan whose reputation inside her community rests entirely on what she does with color. The green-dominated multi-color combination she chose here is not available in any catalog. It exists because she decided it should. Woven on a telar de cintura over the course of about a month, the textile is 100% cotton with rayon, finished at each end with elaborate hand-tied silk fringe — the knots the Purepecha call rapacejo, or "flowers." Feathers are worked into the weave as her signature.
The story
Purepecha weavers from Michoacán's rebozo-making communities have worked on the backstrap loom for centuries. The telar de cintura connects directly to the weaver's body — she controls the tension of the warp with her own weight and movement — which is why every piece carries a physical character that factory textiles never achieve. The style of this rebozo, with bold stripes and layered fringe, has been a part of Purepecha textile tradition for generations and continues today in a small number of specialist households.

Frequently asked questions
Is this rebozo one of a kind?
Each rebozo is individually woven and hand-fringed, so no two are precisely alike. Color combinations are chosen by the artisan herself and are not reproduced in identical form.
What is the difference between rayon and silk in this piece?
The body fabric is a cotton-rayon blend, which gives it drape and a subtle sheen. The fringe is silk — chosen for the way it catches light and forms the delicate rapacejo flowers.
Can this be worn as a beach cover-up or travel wrap?
Yes — the 76-inch length and 30-inch width make it generous enough for beach use or as a lightweight travel blanket. Spot clean afterward and lay flat to restore the fringe.
Does it ship quickly?
